This year the San Juan Del Sur Day School will welcome a record number of new and returning families to the campus. This is an exciting time for the growth and development of our school. We are thrilled to watch our school evolve to the next level.
In celebration of the return to school, the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) would like to invite all Day School families to our first “Dining Out with The Day School” of the 2022-2023 School year on Friday, August 19th.
Come see old friends or meet new ones.
We are so thrilled to welcome back so many returning families and welcome many new faces for the 2022/2023 school year! Don’t forget to join us for the back to school picnic on Monday, August 29 at 3:00 pm at the school! Bring a blanket for sitting on the green and a picnic dinner for you and your family. This is a great opportunity to meet teachers and staff, see the campus and classrooms. There will be a van departing the park at 2:45 p.m. to drive up those families who do not have transportation. School shirts will be available for purchase for $8 at the picnic (exact change please). We look forward to seeing you all!
We are very excited to announce San Juan del Sur Day School’s first Color Run! It will take place on Saturday, February 27th in the late afternoon/early evening. Runners will receive a white shirt with a logo designed by a Day School student. We will pass by several restaurants around town and be covered in multi-colored powder as we run, creating a one-of-a-kind dyed shirt. This shirt will also become a school shirt for students.
There will be three distances: a short kids’ “fun run”, a 5k, and a 10k. The fun run is open to children 8 and under, and the longer distances are open to children of all ages, as well as adults.
For non-running members of the community, we will also need volunteers to be stationed at the designated restaurants in order to throw the colored powder at the runners. Please message Gina DiPiero if you are interested in volunteering for the event, or have a business that would like to donate money to help cover costs or prizes for race winners. Donations of $100 or more will have their business logo featured on the back of the shirt.
The race will cost $15, and there will be opportunities for runners to get sponsors to pledge money for each kilometer run. If your child receives financial aid and needs financial assistance for this race, please let us know by messaging Teacher Gina. If you are interested in sponsoring a scholarship student, please also let us know. All proceeds for this event will go to the San Juan del Sur Day School scholarship fund.
There are three ways to register:
-in person at Fight Club Gym
-by sending the following in your child’s backpack: exact change along with the names, shirt sizes, and distance (5k, 10k, or 1k “fun run” for children 8 and under) for each family member who wants to run
-by using this form: https://forms.gle/8Tdi9gdmH5tgTyUt6. If you use the form, please note that your registration will not be finalized until we receive payment of $15 for each runner.
February 8th will be the last day to register and guarantee the correct t-shirt size. This will also be the last day to confirm a business sponsorship of $100 or more to guarantee your logo on the back of the race shirt.
See you at the starting line!
SJDS Day School Friends and Families get ready for our second annual Fun Run! Correr! 2019. Last year, our community helped to raise $2,300 to build an amazing outdoor playground! Once again this year, students will be running/jogging laps around our soccer field track to be heart healthy and earn money for our latest project- additions to the outdoor playscape AND a reading and math clubhouse for small break-out groups. Please consider sponsoring our runners either with a flat donation or a per lap donation. Please use the “Donate Now” button below. Flat donations can be made now and per lap donations can be made after the event once parents and teachers report the runners’ totals. All monies are due by Monday, June 24, 2019.
We are very excited about this event and our new project!! Currently, San Juan Day School provides tuition scholarships to 25% of the student body (up 5% from last year)! Our relationships with the local community are part of what make our school such a great and diverse place to learn and grow! Events like these allow the Day School to continue focusing funds for student, scholarships, curriculum, great staff, and materials while we (families and friends) all pitch in for extra-special projects like our new playground.
Thank you so much for your love and support of SJDS Day School!!
When making donation, please specify the name of the student you are sponsoring in the “special instructions” box. Monies donated from this page will go directly to the PTO Fun Run! Correr! 2019 (disregard note that it is for scholarship fund).
Please join us on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. for an Open House designed to share information about our school with new/prospective families. Join us for coffee, a tour, and details about our mission, curriculum, approach to education, enrichment hour, sports program and more.
If you don’t have a ride, no need to worry! Our school bus will be in the park (the side near the Re/max office) at 8:45 to drive you up and can bring you back around 10/10:30 a.m.
From a small daycare on the beach to a complete preschool – middle school in the mountains, San Juan del Sur Day School has grown leaps and bounds! This February 8, we will celebrate our 10 year anniversary! Read on for details!
This is a party and camp-out to celebrate our 10 year anniversary as a school community! Plan to come up to the school at 4pm on Friday, February 8 and stay the night camping with your family. We understand this may not work for every family, but we really want to try something fun and camp-out together! Some tents are available for use as well as the gym inside the school. Email us if you need a tent:)
What to bring:
In February 2019, San Juan del Sur Day School celebrated its 10 year anniversary! From a small daycare of just 5 students to an international preschool – middle school of 100 students, we are so proud of all that our school community has accomplished!
Last week’s Fun & Games camp was a great success! The Pollywogs (3 year olds), along with our older campers, enjoyed playing classic favorites and learning new games. We played a variety of board games. We also played chalk, hoop, rope, string, and ball games. We also created obstacle courses, relay races, and used our imaginations. Campers made hoop cookies and popcorn balls, designed tic-tac-toe games, and experienced a little bit of Nicaragua by learning how to lasso.
The pollywogs made binoculars, butterflies, and bug jars. They also played follow the leader, played duck-duck-goose, sang some new songs, explored marble mazes, read stories, and ran animal races.
The older campers enjoyed chess, got deep into Trouble, learned dominoes, mastered cat’s cradle, and played Uno. We had special guests from Cusmapa de Madriz on the Honduran border. Campers had a unique opportunity to weave baskets out of pine needles. Of course, one highlight was creating our own original games with our own rules, strategies, and goals.
On our last afternoon, families were invited to a sharing. The Pollywogs took their parents on a scavenger hunt to find colors, shapes, and numbers throughout the campus. The older campers taught their parents their original games, gave lassoing lessons, and took them on treasure hunts.
We would like to thank all of the families who were a part of our Fun & Games camp and we hope to see you again in future camps. The next camps will be offered during the San Juan del Sur Day School summer break. There will be six week long camps between July 17th and August 25th. Possible themes for future camps may include:
