Lisa Hellman: Science Teacher

For the past 16 years, Lisa has taught grades 9-12 biology, chemistry, physics, Advanced Placement environmental science, psychology, sociology, Spanish and accounting, and grades 6-8 integrated science. As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Dominican Republic, Lisa gained experience in meeting project goals in an international setting by using her Spanish skills and a high level of resourcefulness.  Lisa has broad experience in teaching project-based STEM lesson plans in life, physical, earth and environmental sciences to grades 6-12. She also has 4 years experience writing AERO and NGSS based science curriculum units for grades 6-7, using Understanding by Design format and inquiry-based, student-centered learning plans. Lisa grew up and attended university in San Diego, California where she studied mechanical engineering and business administration. Her hobbies include reading, traveling, yoga, hiking and learning first hand about diverse cultures.
